Basically he was getting more and more hurt his back was really messed up his knees kept blowing out, and he had a lot of extra work outside the wwe as a stockbroker so he retired and is making a lot of money on wall street at various jobs and basically all he does in the wwe is the announcer job and since they needed someone one there he saw that as a way to have everything.

JBL retired because of a severe back injury he suffered, though I'm not sure in which match.

because he faced mysterio in a match where if mysterio wins jbl retires and if jbl wins he gets the world heavyweight championship rey won

Because he agreed to Teddy Long that if he lost to Rey Mysterio for the Word title that he retired, which he lost again(He lost the night before to Rey at Judgement Day).

Well he had a serious back injury, he should have retired a while ago but the pain got so bad he couldnt handle it so had to retire.
