At 22? Please, you're with most of them now (many go for internships and don't graduate for 5-6 years, so they'll be 25 or so before graduating).
Concentrate on your education and you'll make friends along the way.

What?! Don't be silly. The average time taken for a BS or BA degree these days is 6 years. So the average senior will be 23 or 24. Plus there's all those grad students around, who are older than that.
I recall reading a psych study a few years ago pointing out that from a psychological viewpoint, the best age to go to college is 28 to 32, not 18 to 22.
Now you know what you want and have a more mature view of how to get it. Go!

I hope you're not seriously considering letting your age get in the way of what you want. At this point, the only person who can hold you back from getting your education is YOU! The average age on many campuses is in the 21-24 range. If you want to make friends, go make friends. If that is a difficult task for you, then join some organizations. You can have a 'typical' college experience if you want. Chances are that no one's gonna ask you age. They'll just assume that you're one of them. It's hard to tell the difference between 18 and 24 year olds.

The majority of todays college students are no longer traditional students. Traditional being the student who graduates high school and progresses on to college without interupption. Nontraditional students are everywhere now with age ranges up to and into the 80's maybe even higher than that LOL. My oldest daughter just turned 30 and is finally finishing up her degree after being an off and on student for years. In fact the nontraditional student usually does better because they know what it is like to be in the work force and have no prospects of major improvement so are more movitivated to do well in their classes.

no, you are definitely not too old! i think this is a major misconception about going to college...i have a friend who is 22 and won't go to college b/c she thinks she's too old now too! i keep telling her that she would totally fit in with everyone b/c she doesn't look older than everyone else but she doesn't believe me.
trust me, i am in a big 10 university and we have people from all age groups in my classes - even adults who are 40 or 50! as long as you know what you want in life, you can find a way to get it and screw what everybody else thinks! go to college, focus on your studies and you'll make tons of friends along the way and never regret it!

Go to school and don't be surprised to see students in their 30's or 40's. Also consider an online school if you are worried about someones opinion. Does U of I offer online courses?
