When it rains water falls on the ground and swallowed by the roots of a tree, but how does that water gets to the top of the tree?

Capillary action due to evaporation causing a vacuum that draws the H2o upwards. OR the kebler elves make with the magic and there you go!

Turgor pressure. Water evaporates at the leaves, and due to pressure, the water in the soil is "sucked" upwards.

Osmosis is also involved, as w. brick/cement walls, water will climb them through osmotic pressure then you get rising damp in a building.
