420A engine - 2.0L inline 4 non-turbo 140hp....Made by Chrysler and dumped into the 95-99 GS and RS. The engine is a giant pile of crap. Stay away from it at all costs.

1st generation 4g63 - 2.0L inline 4 turbo 210hp...Great engine to swap into a 1st or 2nd generation Eclipse. Originally came in the 89 - 94 Eclipses. Its popular to take the 1g engine block and put the 2g cylinder head on it. These engines are free of crankwalk problems that could be encountered.

2nd generation 4g63 - 2.0L inline 4 turbo 210hp...I would recommend staying away from this engine too. These have a phenomena known as crankwalk where basically the crank starts moving in the block and totally screws the engine. These originally came in the 95-99 turbo Eclipses. (GS-T and GSX)

Those three are probably the most popular engine swaps for an Eclipse. Hope it helps.

Sideways engines are almost always replaced with the same engine. Transmissions and linkage engine controls computer and axles are all different and will be problems if you want to chey colbalt the mitsubushi.
