A gelding that has been proud cut has been left enough of his testes to give him an "attitude" Basically they are arranged to be unable to reproduce (if properly done) but they still have the hormones in their system to drive their instinctive behaviors including mounting and dominating the herd. Proud cutting is done to cause studs to retain their "spirit" even though they are not reproducing. This is most likely the cause of your horse's behavior.

i have heard of it happening but very seldomly. My family had a gelding that would mount our mare once in a while but never sired a colt. But it has happened.

no geldings although they may exibit behavior of a stallion, are physically unable to sire offspring, hense being a gelding not a stallion or stud.

No way can sire a foal. They just left enough to increase the testosterone levels. That will cause tth behavior you describe

A gelding has been neutered...so no, he can't father anything, but he might go thru the motions...

ARE YOU SURE IT WAS PROPERLY GUILDED? SOMETIMES THEY HAVE A TESTIE THAT HIDES IN THE STOMACH AREA AND THEN HE CAN STILL PRODUCE A GOLT.
