Yes. If you aren't having any pain then you don't need to be taking pain killers. You will just make yourself dependant on them. You should wean yourself off of them.

Cocodamol tablets are 500mg of paracetamol and 30mg of Codeine. A typical dose (2 tablets) would therefore be 1000mg of paracetamol and 60mg of codeine.

Codeine is an opiate related to the major pain killers such as morphine. Continued useage of codeine will result in a tolerance build-up and the drug will no longer work. Codeine also partially-anaesthetises the bowel, and chronic constipation often results.

You should discontinue use of this drug as soon as is reasonably practical. If you go 'cold turkey' expect some withdrawal symptoms. Continued use of this drug will have adverse implications for your kidneys, liver and bowel.

Cocodamol can be bought over the counter at the 500mg/8mg dosage. Solpadeine is also cocodamol 500/8 but has a fancy trade-name. The 500mg/30mg dosage is prescription only.

Codeine is incredibly addictive, although most Doctors will argue that over the counter codeine is not strong enough to get addicted to. If I were you I would stop taking it now. Also you have to take into consideration that you are also abusing paracetamol. I took co-codamol for 5 years for migraines and not only did it make the headaches worse I also caused minor damage to my liver, which has now repaired itself. Try and stop taking them and don't buy anymore. If you cant, go and see your Doc and have a chat with him about coming off them, and if he does not take you seriously change Doctors. Good luck

Not an expert in pharmacology or whatever, but I think that if you are continuing to take the tablets because of the feeling they give you, you should speak to your GP.

Don't get addicted. Try being off them and see if the pain HAS gone. And I would imagine that your GP is not going to prescribe them indefinitely anyway so you may as well get off them now if you can. Would be worth checking to see if they are addictive also or if it is just psychological.

Good luck.

Give them up. They are addictive just like heroin or any other hard drug. They should come with a government warning. They make smoking a cigarrette mild stuff.

Believe me, I have seen people in detox suffering from wthdrawal, anything codeine is toxic, addictive and should only be given for a few days under supervision.

They can also in the longterm coddle your brain, cause paranoia and extreme mental disorders. Kick the habit, it's only been 3 weeks, do it now.

I answered a question earlier on about co-codamol [Solpadol] they are very good pain relief but don't get addicted to them like I have it sounds as thou you are because I get one of those feelings. I have been taking them for 6years.What you want to do is, if you got to keep taking them for pain relief, see your G/P and get some OMEPRAZOLE they are stomach liners that protectes your stomach.

You don't specify what type of pain your are seeking relief from. If it's arthritic/rheumatic, try taking Turmeric capsules, available from any health food shop, for long-term relief. Seriously! The same turmeric that you find in curries! In any case, you shouldn't take pain-killers for longer than a couple of days, as they simply mask the underlying problem, and can lead to ulcers, in the case of aspirin.

Not only are you becoming addicted, and by doing so making yourself dependant, but you are putting yourself at risk of damage to your stomach and kidneys and liver in the long run as they store up toxins from drugs like painkillers. You will also become immune to the painkillers over time which means that you might not be able to stop pain when you need to in the future. Please quit while you're ahead!

Yes you will become addicted if you haven't already. pop down to your doctors asap because co-codamol like other painkillers affects the liver and other organs its not good.
