Why not? Here's why not:
- They break easily
- Expansion is more expensive
- Repairs are more expensive
- Laptops are the most stolen item in America
- The screens are small
- The video cards are often limited, so cool games suck on them
- They simply don't last as long
- MAYBE, it will make sense when you go off to college. You see, if you buy a new laptop just as you go to college, it will last you for th four year ride. But if you buy it now, it will be CLUNKY before you get to college. BUY a LAPTOP when you MUST have a laptop.
So consider getting your own Desktop. You can get a decent one at Dell. Look at the Dimension series.
Sorry, I agree with your mom.

Ask her why she has jewellry, she doesn't need it. If you have saved the money and you want a laptop, then good luck to you! Just be aware that in 4 years the laptop will be completely out of date and all that money will be gone! Also laptops are the most stolen items in the world.

You can take a laptop to one of your classes and it can help do your homework. Or you can take it all sorts of other places also and do what you need to do. And you can install a printer on it and type up English papers or something.

if even YOU don't know what you need a laptop for, then you obviously *don't* need one.
there are very few advantages in buying a costly laptop for a teenager for hundreds of dollars/pounds more than it would cost to buy the same spec desktop pc.
