There is actually no guarantee that even if you grown your nails out, that they will be strong enough to pluck at your guitar with. Some people just don't have strong nails. Try finding a pick or finger pick that you can use just as easily. If you quit chewing your fingernails, let it be for the health risks involved. People that bite their nails tend to have skin above the cutical that often cracks and gets infected. Even under the shortest fingernails, bacteria likes to hide and grow there, putting your mouth to your finger nails let you take in all that bad bacteria. It's also very hard on your jaw and can set you in line for conditions you don't want like TMJ. I tend to bite my nails when watching a movie from time to time when I have nothing to do with my hands, but luckily I've asked my friends to tell me if they see me doing that so that I can't stop even then, with will power I was able to stop chewing them the rest of the time. Best wishes to you if you decide to quit.

Are you learning classical guitar with nylon guitar strings? If not, forget about the nails and buy some finger picks that fit over your fingers. You can wear them either way, with the pic where your nail would be or turn them around so that the pics are underneath the fingers. They make a side pick to fit on the thumb also. They come in plastic or metal. PS Why is this question where it is (under fashion?)

well, to stop biting your nails, try putting on some Jessica Nibble no More. it tastes terrible, so it trains you not to put your fingers in your mouth. i used to bite my nails, but it cured me of the habit. then to speed up nail growth, apply Nutra Nail Green Tea growth treatment. it gives results in about 5-7 days. hope this helps! :) and the guitar is awesome!

who the hell said you need to grow out your nails to pluck the string? not even bass players do that. you can just use regular size nails, or you can buy something to put on it. just go the music store, ask to see their picks, and they most likely will have something thats metal with holes on it so you can put your fingers through it. I suggest peeing on the persons head, who ever told you to do that

just ge that nail polish that tastes really bad. that'll get you to stop very soon...

you could also temporarily get acrylic nails so they won't be easy to bite off. but those can be expensive and damaging to your nails.

good luck breaking the habit! it took me a while.
