it is either clear or it aint, take it off pour petrol in the in end and if it comes out the out end real fast there is a non problational situation so refit it.
If petrol dont run through pour petrol in the out pipe and watch if it comes out the in pipe, loads of crap may well come out, dont blow it with pressure or poke it with wire because you dont want crap in the injectors. I f crap comes out fine it is blocked , fit another one.
But have you changed anything else, is there something in the petrol tank breaking up or have you got some creosote or water out of a dirty spare petrol can in the tank, I changed a fuel tank once and 3 miles later the car lost all power and stopped, blocked filter, I drianed the crap out etc, 3 more miles I cleaned it again then it stopped after 10 miles then 20 then I cleaned each 20 mile daily trip for a couple of weeks until it sorted itseldf out, Ok I am a mechanic so this is 5 minutes work each time, but if you have anything in the fuel tank causing the filter to block and you aint a Diyer then you need a new as in new not second hand tank, and filter .

just change the filter they are non servicable you can buy one for about a tenner...Do NOT pull off fuel pipe with engine running or ign on modern fuel pumps/systems operate at up to 50psi you will have about 5 ltrs of neat fuel all over yourself or engine in the time it takes you to panic and switch off...Tip before you change filter allow car to stand for about 15 mins engine and ign off to allow residual pressure to subside, petrol is crap in the eyes. make sure you fit filter in right direction they are marked up by arrows.

Change it, the only thing wrong with a fuel filter is it's blocked.
