I heard that last year on the writing section of the SATs one could hold up the essay and determine what score it got solely from it's length; are they changing the scoring at all, or is it likely that the same will be true for this year's test?

I know that theoretically, the length should not effect the score, and that there are certain catagories which are supposed to be marked, etc. However, this was obviously not the case last year.

It's mostly true. Longer essays tend to get scored higher. There are a few exceptions, but you should definately try to fill up the space provided.

No, your essay is graded by two people, given a score out of 6 based on overall writing ability.
