I just wondered this because a lot of artists are gay and very creative. Also a lot of gay men in theatre and the fashion indistry.

I don't think there is any link between male homosexuality and artistic ability.

There are many more heterosexuals with artistic ability than homosexuals of either sex.

Fashion and theatre have been accepting of gay males, and they have flourished there. If that weren't the case, we would still have those industries, trust me.

Your comment begs the additional question of why the Hollywood studios were run by people of the Jewish faith for so long. At one point, you could have said that only Jews could figure out how to make a successful movie. Of course, anybody can figure that out, and many non-Jews are in that business today.

So don't get stuck in that fallacious line of reasoning. It isn't logical.

Well your question does beg the question, "Are gays more artistic?"

Without statistical data it's a matter of speculation. You can say well Mahler was gay, but I would then have to reply Beethoven was straight. As a matter of fact I can't think of a single impressionist who was frankly gay. The surrealists were likewise nearly all straight (suggestions anybody?).
Writers are a different matter: Proust was gay; Henry James might have been, plenty of poets are known to have been gay, or simply voracious.

Modern fashion designers on the other hand, ... Yves St Laurent, Gaultier, ...
An awful lot of performers both musicians and actors are gay.
Perhaps gays are attracted to areas in which they can display .... who knows?
Maybe you could come up with some names of gay artists?

I don't think that gays are particularly more creative than straight people.

However, historically, these have been very difficult fields in which to make a decent living. Because gays do not have spouses and children - usually - to support, it's easier for them to spend years to 'make it' in their chosen fields.

Most of the straight people (well, men, anyway) I knew who were artists and/or worked in the theatre, music, etc. in college have ended up in the business world because they had to make money to support their families.

Of course, gays are talented and have exquisite taste :-P LOL

There might be a correlation but it's probaby more about where gays have been accepted historically. Many gays and lesbians are very successful in less creative industries as well - it's just tougher because of the prejudice encountered in the traditional male dominated fields.

Well being homosexual makes you see things through a more critical eye. when you are different from birth you pay closer attention to get more attuned to your environment you learn to see the world from a different view and you have to express it from that view this makes us trained from birth to be more creative. Also being different makes us more able to question the norms and problem solve faster. As we learn that our uniqueness creates problems for us early on. thus once again we are more creative because of our ability to live in a society that is not normal to us. We have to seek expression in new ways and more creative ways.
So yes there is a correlation but it is about how difficult our lives are that makes us more creative not who we have sex with that makes us more creative.

The link seems to be more inclusive than that based upon some of the questions and answers I see in this category. There appears to be a link between homosexuality and intelligence.

So are alot of straight men. I think what you are running across is the freedom to be who you are in some professions and not as easily in others. Not all professions are comfortable with diversity however, we are part of EVERY profession. This country could not run without the contributions of the GLBT community.

I am sure, and there is obviously a link between being Gay and having intelligence IF what we see here is the cream of the Straight crop.

oddly enough, a large percentage of artistic gay people are also left handed..... I think it's all part of a particular brain structure
