You can mix about 1 Tablespoon of sugar into an 8 oz glass of cool water and let them sip on it. The sugar heals and the sugar water coats the throat and soothes like a cough syrup. I used this for years with my daughter. She had asthma and allergies to everything and then her allergies would turn into croup. I didn't like giving her so many meds so I found this old time cure. It helped a lot. She would keep a glass of it by her bed so if she woke up coughing it would soothe her throat and she could sleep better. An old man moved next door to us and he developed allergies to cedar trees in the neighborhood. He had been going to dr.s and I told him about the sugar water and it worked better than any of the prescribed meds did! They used it back when America was being settled toward the west. I don't know if it goes back any further.Years later I saw an old movie where a child got sick on a wagon train and they gave her sugar water for her bad throat! So that movie was being historically correct and I was glad to see it used.Sugar will also cure a cut or sore if you clean the injury, pour the sugar on and then wrap it. Change it in a couple of days.If the baby has a fever give them a baby tylenol or ibuprofin.I hope this helps and your baby is much better!!

popsicles are wonderful for toddlers with sore throats. Not only do they cool the ouchy throat, they also help keep your little one from getting dehydrated. It can be a messy solution with a toddler but it works. Good Luck.

Yes, you can place a clove of garlic in some honey in a air tight jar. When your baby has a sore throat or cold, you can give them a tea spoon. Let the clove of garlic stay in the honey until the contents is finished.

I know candy isn't the best, but I took my daughter in for the same thing and the doctor told me to give her suckers. Another time I was in the waiting room and bought some of those suckers for colds and gave her one, by the time the doctor was ready to see her, she wasn't coughing at all anymore.

I think if natural remedies are taken in their natural state (not highly processed) they are generally safer than prescription medicines, less likely to have unpleasant side effects and quite effective, though typically slower to act.

I use chamomile and mint tea with honey. My kids (2 and 5) love it. Honey helps with the pain, mint soothes and chamomile calms.
