ports are the part of the hardware that u can connect things but if ur talking about a software downloader that says port ..... etc
then is all about ur connection on the server and u.

A port is a small hole on the back of the computer tower (sometimes the front too) where you connect various external devices, such as a USB drive, a modem, or HUB, depending what the port is shaped like.

Ports are access points into your computer via the network connection (IE: your ethernet cable) there are over 65000 different ports and different programs or services use these ports to establish communications from point a to point b, also known as source and destination. Depending on the program you are using or the context, a port can be a "Serial Communications Port" such as COM1 or COM2 on your computer. A USB Port, where your mouse connects. There is also a port number within each IP Packet. So a little more context would be useful.
