People being lazy, and wanting something for nothing not withstanding, I think the idea is to make people dumber. US History is not taught with much, if any, accuracy at all. Therefore, most Americans are unaware of their rights as citizens. The average American is unaware that the Constitution, at the very heart of its design, is meant to limit government and what it can do. The Constitution was never meant to limit the rights of citizens. This is the whole reason why 65% of American adults polled, said they were willing to give up some of their rights to be secure.
Also, there is a drive like none I have ever seen in my lifetime, to make the people of this country more and more dependent on the government for food, shelter and clothing by way of food stamps, WIC and other federally provided hand outs. I call them hand outs because that is exactly what they are. I am totally anti-democrat because of this. My observations are the democrats answer to poverty is give more money to these programs. I whole heartily, totally, and completely oppose that view. I say, if we really want to help people, give them an education and training not money so they can have an excuse to lay around and drink and get hooked on drugs. Whoever said, "give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime" knew exactly what they were talking about. We could save trillions of dollars in taxes if we would just make people be self sufficient and support themselves so we could get rid of these totally useless and wasted programs. The only people I can see giving this kind of monetary support to are those who are totally disabled, i.e. wheel chair bound, bed ridden, or mentally incapable due to Downs Syndrome or some other medically proved defect. In my opinion, it is totally hypocritical and asinine to gripe and complain about government interference in our personal lives while running as hard as we can to accept money from the government.
From what I have seen, America is moving more and more toward socialism due in very large part to this dumbing down you have referred to in your question. I don't expect America to be a free and independent Nation in 50 years because of the laziness, and dependence on government that has become so prevalent in our society. The saddest fact of all of this is, Americans aren't stupid, but have become very much lazy.

Because we live in a society that has become too politically correct. No one wants any ones feelings hurt. It's all totally out of control and society as a whole is suffering.
Did you recently hear about the high school football coach who was penalized because his team's score was too high? They have a rule that you can only be so far ahead without being penalized so the coach went so far as to play 2nd and 3rd string players but the opposing team was so bad the score kept going up anyway.
There is disappointment in life. You can't protect people from everything. All this does is create people who won't take responsibility, won't word hard and don't understand consequences.

Oh no, Ill have to keep this brief.
We have become a nation of political correctness. We cannot hurt anyones feelings, so those in school are subjected to learning at the speed of the slowest person in their class, so that that person does not get its feelings hurt.
In the work force, people dont get fired for not doing their job because companies are afraid of being sued for something completey ridiculous.
Also many schools are going towards uniforms, and why, so the poor kids dont feel inadequate because their laze parents cannot afford to buy them the latest trendy clothing.

Anyway, for the period of that point, I learn plenty of books and one in all them in precise talked approximately how the Internet is affecting our minds, actually the very manner we consider. When individuals use the web, they use it rapid. Some stats exhibit that individuals are regularly on a web site for a normal of simply of four-10 seconds! Many individuals even as utilising the web skim by way of the web page and infrequently continue what they learn. A research within the publication acknowledged a institution of scholars who watch a video on-line when put next to those that did so in a school room. On a scan they took later on, it used to be no contest...folks who noticed the video at school did so much bigger. Part of the purpose is considering that of the entire distractions on the web, the entire links and hyperlinks which can be all vying for our concentration. The web forces every body to come to be multi-taskers, however multi-tasking comes at fee. The fee of being capable to consider deeply approximately a hassle. When you learn a publication, your brain turns into very centered, and also you input what's known as deep pondering. This quite simply doesnt occur on the web. In quick, the Internet is making a iteration that quite often tackles problems on a shallow and superficial degree. And Not on a deep degree. Most individuals dont even notice this is occurring to them. More teenagers at the present time who use the web plenty can slightly learn a entire publication. It is having a truly outcome. a lot of people have no desire to work for something they can get for free. they would prefer to complain about being broke, live in low-income housing, and receive food stamps. all they have to do to qualify for and obtain these things is reproduce. cant get much easier than that. they dont care about working hard or taking pride in their accomplishments. they are perfectly content to have those of us who do work hard pay their way thru life. they get free food, free medical care, etc. they even get free education if they desire it. but do they use this opportunity? no way. they prefer to remain ignorant. and as long as they do, they can keep convincing themselves that everything is someone elses fault. these kind of people will never change as long as our government is willing to keep the gravy train rolling. and since they keep right on reproducing to keep the money rolling in, the ignorant section of the population grows larger and larger.

I think too often people feel that they should be handed things just because they are american citizens. there is no blood on thier hands from civil war or revolution, they pretty much get their unemployment and social security handed to them with no regard for the hard work that was put forth to get that money.

Political correctness and liberalism hampers open discussion of the actual causes for the failure of our education system, and most other social problems for that matter, illegal immigration and welfare fraud for example.
