I know that you can't hear the baby's heartbeat until at least 20 weeks with a stethoscope BUT can you here it moving/swimming around at 16 weeks? I hear lots of sounds where they check for the heartbeat and hear swishing but was unsure if it's my food digesting. Thanks

No you cant hear your baby. I tried it with both my pregnancies and all I ever heard was my stomach making noises. Couldn't even hear their heartbeat in the third trimester with a stethoscope, I was very dissapointed.

If you have a powerful stethoscope you may be able to hear somethings. Just make sure that the room is very quite and the baby is very active.

I thought ob/gyns had a special stethoscope for that purpose. Perhaps you can find one online or at a nearby home health/medical supply store.

You *might* be able to. Depends on how big your baby is at 16 weeks and how active during the time you are listening.

Mostly just your stomach working...baby is very small and there is no air to make "swimming" sounds. Amniotic fluid is one of the slickest substances known....hard to make any sounds at all. Even if the baby was snapping his fingers, it wouldn't make any sound...just too slick!

not really....probably more like gas bubbles in your intestinal tract. You really would need a fetoscope to hear a fetal heartbeat
