The general rule of thumb is an inch of fish per gallon. Neon Tetras grow to be up to 2 inches. So you do not want to put more than 5 in your 10 gallon tank.
Tetras are beautiful schooling fish and do well in groups. So if you were wanting to add more to a tank I suggest investing in a larger tank.

You can go about 15-20 but I dont recomend any more then 20 because the rule is one inch per gallon but Neon tetras dont get more the an inch so they will be find just as long as you have it well planted ^_^

the neon tetras can get to about one inch 20 can go in a 10 gallon just make sure you keep it clean ^_^ but if you are that worried you can allways ask you petstore they will prob only tell you to buy like 10 or so but do what ever you thing is best

Neon tetras are great for a small tank!
They swim in unison, and don't nibble each others' tails!

Try about 6-10, for some nice visuals
You can always add more...
Add a plant, some snails, and an algae eater ---nice little tank.
Give them some time to settle in, and decide if that's what you want.

2 inches of fish to 1 gallon of water, tetras are average of .5 inches so 40 for a 10 gallon tank.

this also will vary slightly with the amount of filtration on the tank.

i say 6-8 u dont want to over crowd them leading to disease , high amonia levels .. i wouldnt ask a pet store unless you are sure they know what they are doing... check out their stock do all their fish look healthy? are there any dead fish in the tanks? is the water clean? do the fish look as if they have parasites? alot of times depending on the pet shop their employees know nothing on the hobby .... if u want to add alot of fish u might want to invest in a better filter? something with a biowheel or some type of area for biological filtration

one rule of thumb is to count 2 inches of fish in a gallon of water. That makes a lot of teras in a ten gallon tank. I doubt if you want that many.

i would go with about 8 . i wouldn't put any more then that or you would be over stocking your tank . then you'll have problems . you can also have a bottom feeder .
