you substitute 0 in for y or x in order to find their intercepts. you can not substitute 0 in for both of the variables at the same time, you must do it in two separate equations

2(0)-y+8=0
0-y+8=0
-y+8=0
-y= -8
y=8

the y intercept is 8

2x-0+8=0
2x+8=0
2x=-8
x=-4

the x intercept is -4

The intercepts are where the line crosses the axes. When the line crosses the x axis, y has to be 0. In the equation, substitute 0 for y and solve for x. 2x - 0 + 8 = 0 Therefore x = -4 and the x intercept is
(-4,0).
To find the y intercept, let x = 0 2*0 -y +8.=0 y = 8 , and the y intercept is (0, 8).

Using Joe's method:

2x -y +8 =0

0 -y +8 =0

(0,8) is the y-axis intercept.

2x -y +8 = 0

2x -0 + 8 = 0

(-4,0) is the x-axis intercept.

2x - y + 8 = 0

get y by itself

y = 2x + 8 you are now in slope intercept form

y = mx + b

now, to find the intercepts, let x = 0

y = m(0) + 8
y = 8

let y = 0

2x + 8 = 0
2x = -8
x = -4

so the intercepts are (0,8) and (-4,0)

to find the x-intercepts to set y = 0 and solve for x. similarly to find for y-intercepts set x= 0 and solve for y.

P.S. remember that x-intercept is where the line intersects the x-axis and y=0 and the same for y-intercept, that is where the line intersects the y-axis and x = 0

the x-intercept may be 2 and y might be -1 i think. but its been a while since ive had to do those problems.
