Lately, my wireless internet for my laptop will show a strong singal but the speed will not stay at a constant high. It will go down seemingly without reason to 24mpbs. This happens even when I am right near the router. My neighbors are using channel 6 on their routers so I am using channel 1. I have tried other channels as well and nothing is helping. Also, the cordless phone is not to blame because I have a 5 ghz phone so it will not interfere with my network. My apartment is small and for over a year until recently I have had no issues.
So I am ruling out the following:
-interference from any other wifi networks around my apt

-cordless phone

-distance

So what else could it be?

one thing could be microsoft updates that may have increased security, but decreased performance. ditto on any firewall/antivirus updates.

other reasons would be if your wireless router's and/or nic card's antenna has begun to loosen, or if either of these is at the beginning stage of hardware failure.

My firewall has instructed me they were virus or different malware even as i tried that attitude... good luck... As others instructed you, it helps when I close the a number of open classes, possibly...
