Abraham said something similar in a speech on June 16, 1858:

"A house divided against itself cannot stand."

He was paraphrasing something that Jesus said:

"And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand." (Mark 3:25, NASB)

im not shure. but probably bk in the day when the north and the south were fighting against slavery, a president might of have said that...civil war or something.
