Betas CAN live with other fish, you just can't have two male betas togethere. But, they will mess with other colorful small fish like guppys. I had one in my community tank for over 5 years...the only fish he ever bugged was my fancy tail guppys, but my gourami would protect them for some reason.

if your betta is friendly you can put a Aferican Dwarf Frog in with it ^_^ my one betta liked the company! but I also had a beta that like to be alone and would go after the other thing I put in with it. I at one time had a beta , aferican dwarf frog and a algie eather in one takin and they lived for a verry long time ^_^ there was no harm done, So it depends on the beta you have ...
if you want you can set up a taink with Cichlid in them there verry cool looking fish!!!

You can put any hearty freshwater fish with them, but beta's will attack anything with large fins (thats why they fight with other males) So avoid things like that. But make sure that the new fish you get wont mess with your beta, they're pretty fragile and if they get beat up they're colours will scar and it wont be as pretty. Remember....you're beta is one of the slowest fish so make sure he gets a chance to eat too!

You can put pretty little neon tetras, red zebra danios, and african dwarf frogs in. They all get along and are usually ok. Neons and danios don't have big fins, but you have to watch out for nipping (some fish like to pick on the betas)

No other fish will survive in the same tank with betas, if you didn't already know that.

Bettas get along with most fish. I assume you have a small tank, so I would suggest Mollys, platys, guppies, swordtails or killifish.

Get you a catfish. If worst comes to worst you can always eat it.
Try raising pet plants. I raise some pet tomato plants every year. It's a lot of fun & rewarding. You might be surprised how good a vine ripe tomato tastes.

It would depend on the size of your tank.
