So sorry for your loss of Mom, and the fire. I too had a bad fire (electric) a few years ago. The dry cleaner did get lots of things restored, but my plain ole everyday things as undies, jeans, shirts, as well as bedding & linens I was instructed to do this and it worked:
Was told to use the expensive Tide detergent, & add a cup of white vinegar to the wash, and also use a cup of vinegar in the rinse water..then immediately rewash and do it again-same way. It did work & I cried, as I'd lost almost everything & the smell is so haunting & fearful after a fire. Hand bags could not be retored, but the cleaners did make my long leather coat as new again. The light colored dry clean only items were a loss. The cleaners did try but was striped up from the heat.
Good luck.

I am sorry for the loss of your Mom.
As for your clothes,Yes! My mobile home burned last year. I couldn't afford to go out and replace everything. I used a lot of clorox 2, and cheer on my colored clothes. about 4 washings before I put in the dryer. The last washing I pretreated the places that still had smoke stain. Granted there were some things I still didn't get it out of. Use downy and febreeze. On the whites and my sheets I used regular bleech.
If you have already washed and dried, I'm afraid the stains are set in. I still have a few things this happened with.

I'm so sorry about your mum... I'll say a prayer for her and for you.

Consider having a discussion with the insurance company. They should be able to put you in touch with a company that specializes in treating objects that have been exposed to smoke damage.

Good luck!

dry cleaning babe, if that doesn't work just keep the articles you can't part with and put them in a special airtight bag. At some point the smell might bring you comfort.

Sorry for your loss....
