That probably depends on what the bank expects you to be ready to do upon hire. There are also several different types of bank tellers, but basic money handling skills will be demanded of this and probably any other job where you are working in the public. Are you able to count money back to a customer without having to be told how much to give? That was always an important skill when I was hiring bank tellers. That has been a few years ago, but money is money and the ability to balance your cash drawer should still be an important tool. Being acurate and keeping your eye on the details so that you don't accidentally give out too little or too much is the name of the game at the end of the day.

Add to that, a friendly attitude, being good with names, eye contact, etc. and you have the basic ingredients of a good bank teller.

Usually teller positions are entry level and require a good aptitude in math. Once you apply, they will give you a math test, which is not highly difficult, really the basics, add, subtract etc. It is a good way to work your way up in the banking industry as you get to learn much about how banking works, especially on the retail side of the business.
