What kinds on things should be in your car trunk? just in case?

A full size and highly complete first aid kit. A blanket, extra water and food (non-perishable), a 911-only cell phone (may be better if kept in the glove compartment), and maybe a small suitcase with a change of clothes, sunscreen, a hat, hygenie-care supplies, emergency small-sized cones, and a flashlight.

Here are the items and their reason for belonging in your trunk:

-Jumper cables - in case your battery goes dead.
-Air pump - because the spare tire will probably have little air in it when it comes time to use it, and nobody ever keeps it filled.
-Cross iron wrench - because the stupid jack wrench tool that's supplied won't get those air gun torqued lug nuts off.
-Spare bottle of oil - in case you spring a leak or run out.
-Flashlight - preferrably one with a long kinked cord that plugs into the cigarette lighter outlet in your car.

In the winter time, I'd add these items:
-Extra bottle of sub-zero washer fluid - when the drive gets sloppy and you need to see.
-Snow brush with scraper, AND an extra scraper. Because the cheap modern brush/scrapers will break; you'll be glad you have the spare hand scraper.
-Blanket - to keep warm in case you get stuck someplace remote. A sleeping bag will work as well.
-Small shovel - sometimes you can dig your way out of trouble.
-Bag of either: Kitty litter, sand, or salt. If you're stuck on ice, this will give you traction if you put it under the drive tires.
-An old pair of gloves and winter hat - because you will probably have forgotten to wear these items when something bad happens.
-An old but warm winter coat - because you're usually wearing something not suited for the winter when something goes wrong.

If you're going to go on a long trip somewhere, I'd also throw in some rations and water just in case.

Jumper cables, a blanket, a flashlight, extra pair of tennis shoes (just in case you have to walk), a bottled water, a snack, an extra pair of clothes, some toys for the kids, a minimum of $10, a comb and brush, makeup, socks, a good book or magazine, and some breath mints.

In case of what? All of my family members keep a knapsack in the trunk full of emergency supplies similar to the things mentioned above,
plus water, firstarting equipment, a whistle, signalling mirror, solar blanket, vitamins, potassium iodide tablets, too much to list here.

it really does depend on a lot of things what the weather conditions are like where you live and where you are driving to. but for the most part the best things to carry are a full size spare, tire iron and jack, a battery powerd air compreser, jumper cables, a bag of common hand tools, a first aid kit, a flashlight and road flares.

I don't know what else, since I don't have a car, but I'm saying this from what I see in other cars.

i drive a truck but in my wife's car i have a spare, jack, wrench, flare kit, 2 gal water, flashlight, first aid kit, small tool kit, emergency food bars. winter months will include blanket.
