Well, he went right to the back, and had to pass lots of cars to move up in position. Also, some cars might have entered pit road, making Jimmie's job a little easier.

He was put as the last car on the lead lap. He didn't have 5 laps to respond to the penalty, so the penalty (as per the rules) is that he was placed as the last car on the lap he was on. But, if he was the only car on the lead lap, he then would be scored as the last car on the lead lap, he would be moved behind the next finishers who finished on the same lap.
Edit: Disregard my previous answer.
Jimmie Johnson did serve his penalty. There is undeniable photographic proof he did just before Tony Stewart crossed the start/finish line. Since JJ came out ahead of Tony, he finished on the lead lap. Someone on the Kevin Harvick message board posted the picture, which clearly shows this.
And I am not a JJ fan, but that was the correct call that no action is taken against Johnson.

They couldn't have sent him to the back, it happened under the green flag. When there is a pit road speeding penalty under green, the driver must perform a drive through penalty. It also happened with very few laps left in the race (3 I believe?). If Johnson wasn't black flagged he has no reason to come down pit road to serve the penalty. Even if he was black flagged he has 5 laps to serve his penalty and that was less than that left in the race.

There weren't many cars on the lead lap anyway. Many were pitting for fuel and others stayed out and ran out of fuel, so I guess it didn't hurt him that bad. I was kind of disappointed when I saw that he still finished 14th. Not a Hendrick fan.

I don't think he did, I hope he gets dropped to 30th. There's no way he's 14th, there were more than 14 cars on the lead lap at the end. He should've been 2 laps down minimum.
His eyes sure were welling on tv afterwards.

He has a violation for speeding and then was sent back to the end of the longest line. He managed to work his way back up.

Placed as the last car on the lead lap.Had there been another lap to go he would have been black flagged and scoring stopped.

must have been a lot of cars more than 1 lap down then, cause he was leader, and by that penalty, he basically got put almost 2 laps down

at the same time as a automobile passes the start end line on pit street this completes the lap as if they were on the song. Talladegas start up end line isn't go pit street,it really is almost in turn volume a million.
