I think some people feel that if a ball of some sort isn't involved then it can't be considered a sport. Something like ice skating, taking as much time, dedication, & physical work to be good at, can be call nothing at all if it can't be called a sport. It's not something just anybody can do. It takes years of hard work to be among the best.

Because some consider it more of an artform. In baseball, if I make it to home plate, I score. That's one run. Doesn't matter if I hit a home run or if I just steal home. It's a run. In "sports" like ice skating, you aren't just judging what they do, but their style in which they do it. This causes some grey areas.

The athletic ability & agility to figure skate is on a par with gymnastics, skiing, track and field events, etc. Its as much of a sport as they are.

it takes alot of strenght and talent to skate, wether it is figure skating, or ice dancing or hockey, or olympic skating
