What a wonderful question. I can tell you are a born teacher and empathic as to the needs of people and that your question is more directed to reaching people and getting them to 'think'.
Sometimes our expectations aren't that good are they? Sometimes we don't even want other people to treat us that good, for instance, someone will compliment us and we in response will deny the compliment rather than just saying thank you. I guess we could all begin to start with wanting people to treat us well, in the first place. So often we are satsifed with less. So often we program others to treat us with less respect than we deserve.
I guess it is a play of consciousness. Sometimes I treat myself very well and othertimes I am neglectful to my needs, but I am learning.

Unfortunately, I probably treat myself the way I think I deserve to be treated in the eyes of other people, rather than by how I would like to be treated, as I cannot realistically assess the reasons why my unconscious mind yearns for treatment that on it's face seems harmful.

Before I just became an Empty-Nesting Single parent -- I would have had to say NO -- I did not treat myself as well as I treated others -- and that was a part of parenthood.
NOW -- YES, this Empty Nester, older single is starting to take care of myself -- resting more, eating healthier for my age, taking better care of my injuries and old wounds, trying harder to relax and just unwind -- because I never had that opportunity in the past.

Yes, I do and that contributes greatly to my happiness. I found that when I started treating myself as I wanted others to treat me, I was able to let go of negative relationships and started having relationships with people who treated me well, too. Set your standards and live by them, and you should find yourself surrounded by others with the same standards.

Yeah. I open the door for myself when I want to walk in. I get in the car and drive myself, when I want to go somewhere. And, When I'm thirsty I get myself a glass of water. Please!
I want someone to support (I'm not talking financial) me because it makes no sense for me to do that on my own. I want someone to care enough to understand me because I am not interested in being alone on this planet.
The things we need from others are things that we can't give ourselves.
That was a very naive question!
