The rankings take into account for more than just the eight weeks of the season that account for the Slams. It takes into account the rest of the season, which are the non-Slams. The answer is he places consistently well in the non-Slams. He won Chennai and Zagreb this season, was a losing finalist at the ATP Master Series in Miami, was a losing semifinalist at the French Open, and made the quarterfinals at ATP Master Series events in Monte Carlo, Cincinnati, Indian Wells, the Australian Open, Beijing, Gstaad, and Marseille so far this season.

In the sources is the points breakdown for Ljubicic's year.

Note that he reached the quarters at the Australian Open, and the semis at the French, so he did farely well in Grand Slams. He was also in the quarters or 3 Master Series events and in the final of 1, and he won 2 smaller events at the start of the year, and reached the quarters of three of small events.

So as you can see, Ljubicic did well in two Grand Slams, and did well in many other tournaments to get ranked so high. I think it's because he hasn't won any big tournaments this year why it looks like he doesn't do anything to get a high ranking.

He is always near and collecting points..actually only for Federer and Rafa you can say they are destroying competition..but from all other tennis players Ljubicic deserves 3rd place as he is the best after Federer and Rafa..
