hello, my name is connie, and 2 years ago, i fell down some stairs and broke my tibia/fibia, i had a full leg cast on my left leg and i had also broke a toe and fractured the top of my ankle i was in bed for over 4-months, and then had a cam walker boot on for over 6-months,my bones didn't heal very fast and i still have problems, because i get arthritis in it every so often, so if you take vitamins and calcium pills, your bones will get stronger., but it all depends on the person., but that is how long it took me. If you can go to a sports medicine place it will also help, if they use that bone stimulator on ti

Depends on where the break is. If it is at the end near the ankle, you can expect that anywhere between 8-10 weeks. Fractures of the middle third of the tibia/fibula are a different story.
The middle third of the tibia/fibula is noctorious for having a very poor blood supply compared to other bones in the body. This leads to very poor and lengthy healing times. What you do have going for you is youth...so they may play a role. Healing time for this type of fracture is often twice as long as a fracture elsewhere. They are also noctorious for non-union.
I have a patient right now who was non-weight bearing for 11 months due to a non-union. He finally had to go through bone grafting and experiemental bone growth factors. He is at month 14 now, still just dealing with significant weakness. Yet, he is also 265 pounds and has diabetes.
Hopefully, if you are healthy person and have a little luck, you could possibly be weight-bearing by the end of the year if it is the middle third you fractured (sooner if just above the ankle).
Best wishes

External rod or internal?
Sometimes you can talk them into electrostimulating it and it will heal faster, but it really depends on you.
Couple months to walk on it well.
I had an external screw/brace thing in mine. It took more than 3 months until they decided the ext brace was keeping it from healing and it needed help. Then another couple months to switch to a cast, then a month before a splint. Probably like 10 months altogether until it was mostly right, but that is probably more like a worst case.
My son broke his tibia in a car accident and was running on the cast the next day. Cast came off in 3 weeks for him.

A friend of mine had hers broken in a car accident almost two years ago. I saw her a few weeks ago when I was visiting Korea and she was finally walking without a cane. She had to have it rebroken three times because it wasn't healing right. She said that she finally got rid of the cane back in June, 18 months after the accident.
Guess it would depend on how back the break was, and if it heals right. But you're looking at least almost six months at the minimum.

I would say you should start gentle physio within a week then walking on crutches and just taking it slow. Most bones heal within 6 to 10 weeks without complications. Make sure you are having extra calcium in your diet.

"What is required to get back to the Bush prosperity years of 52 months of record breaking economy?" Elect CONSERVATIVE Republicans and/or Right leaning Libertarians. Ashley writes: "we were losing 750000 jobs a month under Bush" Lie. We lost 750 thousand jobs for one month. One. Not "a month", plural. And that was his last month in office.
