My daughter wants to have a sleepover party with a Princess Diaries theme. We have both movies, she wants to serve pear and popcorn flavored jelly bellies, we can't do matress surfing - the stairs aren't long enough. Any ideas on what to do with about seve to eight 10 year old girls?

we used to play a game called "shake the bag".
haha. it sounds dirty now, but it was fun when we were young.

all you do is put a mystery object in the bag (preferably brown paper bag) and have someone shake it for the kids. the kids take turns guessing what it is....
if they don't get it after so many turns, the shaker gives a clue...
the person who guesses first wins what's inside.

i was going to suggest a pinata, but that's probably too dangerous for eight-year-olds.

also, for the princess diaries theme, you could maybe download some music from the soundtrack? i don't know.

I loved doing art/ craft projects with the girls. You can buy packages of gorgeous beads and have them make necklaces and bracelets (beading supplies), interesting collages with all kinds of materials- pasta, buttons, fabrics, etc. You can buy simple origami booklets that come with the pretty papers and have the kids figure out how to make the nice origami forms. It is nice if you do it beforehand so you can help them although kids figure it out real fast.
You can hire a magician that does birthday parties in your area.
You can divide the group into two teams. Give theme rolls of white toilet paper- the Goal: To design a wedding dress on one of the girls on their team, out of the toilet paper. They can be really great, actually. Think ruffles, layers, draping, etc. Can use straight pins or tape to hold paper in place. Winners get a prize. Actually give everyone a prize!

Have a ball. In four years she won't be talking to you. (Only kidding)
