What kind of music was popular in San Francisco in the early 1990s?

Depends on the neighborhood you grew up in and your culture. Also age of the listener is an important factor. We were listing to alot of MC Hammer, for those into early hip hop. For a more hardcore rap it was Too Short. For Rock it was Nirvana, alternative was Depeche Mode. Folk music (for lack of a better category ), saw a return of Bonnie Raitt and Fleetwood Mac. So It really depends on the individuals taste. I listened to all kinds of music, sorry if this wasn't help full.
