Just curious for a new born (3 days old) how much should they be eating in a day? Some say 1 to 2 ounces every 2-3 hours? I fed her this morning around 7-8 a.m. and she drank a good 3 ounces but has not drank much else today. MAYBE an ounce every 4 hours. Now she has been pooping normal, so im hoping she is just really tired. Im really worried since this is my first baby and all so all the help i can get is REALLY appreciated :-) thanks

if she is eating and does not seem fussy she is probably okay. She might just be a "lazy eater" and you might need to try keeping her awake during feedings.... if it goes on more than a couple of days TOPS call your doc and see what they suggest....

if she isn't urinating get her to a doc quick! she could dehydrate.

Good luck and Congrats

Rule of thumb, she should have about 4 pee diapers a day. I would try to rouse her and feed her every 2-3 hrs. It could be that she's just too tired. Some babies are like that. Are you using formula or breastmilk? If formula than it might be just taking longer to digest in her little tummy. You might have to strip her down to her diaper in order to wake her enough to eat. I had to do this all the time with my daughter the first 2 months. Good luck

As long as she is getting that one ounce for now she is fine. Dont worry yourself. I have been there and done that. My oldest is 14 and youngest just turned 1. As long as she is wetting and still getting atleast that ounce she is fine. She knows how much she wants to eat. But if she is staying at that for the rest of the day and night i would call your peds doc to make sure she is on the right formula.

The main thing is to make sure that they are having enough wet diapers, if I remember right, 7-10 a day. Does your pediatrician have a weekend nurse number? Mine has a number you can call at night or on the weekend and the nurses in pediatrics at the hospital answer. Being a new mother can be very scary - but it will get better once you get to know your little ones habits!

She will let you know when she is hungry. Since she is so young she is just getting use to eating so you shouldn't expect too much. Remember a babies tummy is very small. When my son was first born it took him a good week before he started to eat 2 ozs. Before that he would barely eat an oz every 3 hours. And remember newborns sleep most of their day so they might not eat on a schedule just yet.

Good luck!

Relax. You are doing great. Remember that your baby's stomach is only abou the size of her fist. Not too big. She will eat when she is hungry. Today might be less, but watch out tomorrow she may be eating every hour. Don't force her to eat more. She will not starve. Promise. As long as you offer it and she does eat she is fine. diapers are a great way to measure it.. Wet or soilded. Enjoy that sweet little baby.

My Son did the same thing, and my pediatrician told me not to worry, he was healthy and would eat when he was hungry. Babies sleep a lot at first, so I really wouldn't worry too much. Just keep an eye on it, and if you get too concerned don't hesitate to take your baby in. Better to be safe than sorry, and nobody will criticize you for that.

SOMETIMES WHEN THE BABY DRINK MORE THAN USUAL AT A FEEDING, THEY WILL EAT LESS AT THE NEXT FEEDING OR THEY WILL NOT EAT AT ALL. THAT'S WHY A LOT OF TIMES BABIES DON'T STAY ON SCHEDULE. YOUR BABY IS DOING FINE. SOME BABIES EAT MORE THAN OTHER BABIES. THINK ABOUT IT, AN OUNCE IS BETTER THAN NONE AT ALL. JUST WAIT, YOUR BABY IS GOING TO START EATING SO MUCH AND YOU ARE GOING TO BE SO SURPRISED. AND IF YOUR BABY IS HUNGRY SHE WILL LET YOU KNOW.

Don't worry, no baby has ever starved themselves to death. Trust me, you will be asking how to get your baby on a schedual later on tonight when she is waking you up every 2-3 hours
