Place one or more sets of parentheses in the expression on the left side of each equation so that the resulting equation is true.

6+1sqared-20=29

11+6-3squared=20

stumped! any hints or clues would be helpful. i don't see anywhere you could put the parantheses and get that answer.

(6+1)squared-20=29=49-20

11+(6-3)squared=20=11+9

There are only a few possibilities for each, check them out.
for the first one, 6+(1squared) would only be 7, so if you subtract 20 it becomes negative, so you needed to have a bigger square.
And the only possibility was (6+1)squared.

((6+1)squared)-20 = (7squared)-20 = 49-20 = 29

11+((6-3)squared) = 11 + (3squared) = 11 + 9 = 20

not that difficult if you try different combinations,

(6 + 1)^2 - 20 = 49-20= 29

11 + (6-3)^2 = 11 + 9 = 20
