There are alot of people that have a "jock strap" mentality. They think NASCAR is a bunch of "rednecks"that are uneducated and unemployed watching a bunch of cars run in circles.Well they are not correct and the true NASCAR fan knows this.
If they look closely they will see that the main fan base today are the middle - upper class of people, wallstreet, bussiness owners.Sure we the middle class et-al go to races(I'll be at Talladega this coming week end)
I have attened NASCAR events since 1960 and as long as I can I will. The people that bash NASCAR are the same ones that do not take the time to research events,I have noticed that these same ones complain the most when NBC carries the race.So they miss their "atheletic" event be it beach volleyball, football, golf or paid infomercials.
So I'm sorry that they missed their sport but if they get cable or a dish they could have watched 5 football games,3 baseball games,6 infomercials, golf, bullriding and fishing, hunting and for their IQ cartoons.

A lot of the people that are trashing Nascar are the F-1 fans. They think F-1 is superior just because all of their tracks are road courses. If you think about it though, have you ever seen much passing in F-1? No. It seems like the driver who captures the pole wins the race. That would mean that the most exciting thing about F-1 would be qualifying, wouldn't it?

I don't know why you should be ashamed to admit that your a Nascar fan, I mean what's going to happen to you if you admit that? I'm proud to be a fan of Nascar and my favorite driver is Dale Jr!
I think that the people who sit there and trash Nascar don't have anything to do. They are people who sit there and trash any and everything because their lives are empty so they sit there and be negative to try and fill an empty void. I just ignore those people and go on about my day.
And PAPABILL, you took the words right outta my mouth.

A lot of people don't think that nascar is a sport. They are the ones who need to spend a few hours behind the wheel of a car and see how much physical exertion it takes. I am with you, if they don't like it then they shouldn't watch it.

Aloha from Down Unda!
Thanks for asking! I'm very happy to speculate that people trash NASCAR so much because, in spite of your lower case letters, you stick your question out here in the motor sports arena with the granddaddy of motor sport, Formula One! I'm really not 'trashing' NASCAR, it's just, like many others who have enjoyed the sport in the old days, we've 'graduated' to Champ Cars, Indy Cars & Ferraris! I spent a weekend in Australia's Gold Coast, Surfer's Paradise to see the races. Here, the V8 Holden & Ford 'Supercars' hold the motor sport for qualifying & racing on a Thursday, Friday & Saturday. The V8s clear the track on Friday & Saturday afternoons & all day Sunday to make way for the open wheeled 'Indy' cars for the Grand Finale Sunday Indy Race! At the onset, the V8s were fairly impressive, but by Friday afternoons appearence of the open wheels, well, let's just say we lost ALL interest in anything with fenders. The sounds & sights of the Indy Cars, Formula One Style open wheels are simply spectacular with no comparision. Like watermelons compared to tractor tires. Just so much different in every regard. I'm not even in the least bit interested in anything that isn't open wheeled, high powered such as Indy Cars, Champ Cars, A1 or Formula One! After flying my own airplane, I realized that if it isn't a jet, I'll just pass! After Paris, I'm not goin back to the farm, either! Would you care to go back to a Windows 95, or IBM Selectric after using a Windows XP Pentium IV? Okay, I hope you can appreciate my perspective for your answer!

They trash Nascar while waiting for Pay per view Wrestling to come on. It gives them something to do.

i think the reason people bash NASCAR so much is b/c the get a rise out of fans. if fans don't give them the attention and time to comment, then what is the point of bashing. i just ignore them. you can't change 'em so let 'em complain and bash.

NASCAR is awesome. i wish Kevin Harvick would have won today, he did so well yesterday in the Busch race. but 15 th is not to bad and he is 5th in the points, he can still win the championship and be the first driver to win Busch and Nextel champinships in the same year.

i know it takes alot of skill and experience to do what they do, and they have a huge following of fans. but some people just think its really boring. now its true that if you dont like it you dont have to watch it, but at my previous work place a huge amount of people watched it while the say 10% of the rest of us didn't care for it, yet we had to watch it. yeah we work hard in the military :D
anyway, i learned 1 thing of how to watch nascar and piss off 99% of the people, root for jeff gordon. i dont know who he really is or what car he drives or what ever, i just say go jeff gordon! and what do you know, he actually wins, and if i bet on him, its all the better.

Why would someone be afraid to say they like NASCAR, or anything else, for that matter.
