Breathe!
Think about what the teacher is asking. Sounds like s/he wants a report on a researcher, an invention or a scientist. Now, look in The New York Times, nytimes.com, which DOES have a science section. Find a story about a researcher, invention or scientist. Do more research on Google or Ask or Dogpile and you have your paper.
Good Luck...and next time don't wait until the last minute!

Does your paper have to be on all three of the topics you mentioned or just on one of the three? If it's just one, then pick something like inventions. Next, think of the one invention that you'd like to know more about, such as how was invented. Next, you find out who invented it and look up all the articles that you can find about it. I think, once you start researching the invention, you'll find all the elemets that your topics cover. Since you're looking for recent inventions, it will be particularly difficult. I think if you just look into some recent discoveries, such as what they've been finding out about volcanoes, you might find something more recent. Part of the fun of science is in the finding out. If this isn't what you were looking for, so sorry for not being of help for you. I do know that the internet has a wealth of information on anything scientific, as long as you know what you're looking for. I've also been watching the Discovery Channel, and they've got lots of interesting things there. <*)))><
