I am 12 years old. Male. Homeschooled.
Ok,
I read 300-400 page books in a week. These are NOT picture books, they don't even have pictures. I HATE books with pictures. I read about 100 pages per one hour and a half. (See I only read an hour and a half per day and some days I miss.) I read at a 11th grade level. I comprehend everything. I can read at a faster pace also but I don't like reading that fast. IS THIS WHAT A NORMAL 12 YEAR OLD READS? AND IS IT NORMAL? IS IT BAD?

I'm 14 and I read 300-400 page books in 1 or 2 days. I don't think that my case or your case is abnormal. I love to read, and read 3-4 books a week. Some people are better readers than others. I know people my age who take a whole month to read a 100 page book. However you read is fine. Just don't read so much that you don't have a life.

That is perfectly normal if you are sure you can completely comprehend everything. You should grow up to take honors literature and writing classes in high school. I was never like that at 12 and am still not at 16. I am a math person. But that's OK because at 12 I was solving math problems at a 11th grade level. Just make sure you use your brains well in high school ans stick with it! Keep reading.

This sounds like it is normal for you. I too am an avid reader. I read that much a day too and did when I was in school. Be sure and vary your reading. I mean don't just read one type of book. Mix them up. Maybe an biography one day. History another, Science fiction another. Develop a taste in all areas. Something that would probably be hard for you is poetry. Sometimes it is hard to really read poetry fast. and most should be read out loud. Have you read the classics? The Odyssey, The Iliad, and the Anead??? These are great advnture books for any age.

well its not what most people would call normal normal, but there is nothing wrong with you. All it really means is that you find the home of books a great comfort. I was just like you for years and i know how you feel. All this reading means many things such as a lager vocabulary level, you will do great in english, mabey advanced levels, and you may turn out to be a great writer yourself because you will have great understanding of the concept of books, such as the plot line how to make the story fit together and such.

i wish you good luck

Let me tell you a story. When I was in third grade I had already read all of the classics. By the time I was in 6th grade I was reading well above college level and I comprehended everything. I am interested in History, Archaeology, Paleontology, Mysteries(fact and fiction), Fantasy, Science and Sci-Fi, Thrillers and Adventure reading. I am now 58 years old and have read over 565,000 books and see no reason to stop now. Enjoy, learn, apply and have fun. Speed is good for somethings but enjoyment of reading is not one of them. Beat my record and I will tip my proverbial hat to you!

if thats how you read and what you enjoy doing, then yes it is normal. When i was your age, i could read like that, no problem. I remember that i could be reading and it was like watching a movie. Everytime someone asked me something or something interuppted me, I would go back and think i was watching a movie, not reading. even now, at age 17, i can read a 700-1000 page book in less than a day. is it normal, of course it is. And just think, when you go to college and you're up against people that never read, or read very little, you'll get in before they will.

Don't worry because your liking for reading is not typical of boys of your age.
Reading is probably the most important skill that you will ever learn. Make the most of it.
I joined my local library when I was 7 years old and and I guess that I have read on average 4 books a week ever since then. By my calculation that means that I have read 14,000 books by now.
Most of the knowledge that I have came from reading.
Enjoy it.

My children are also home schooled. No it is not a bad thing or abnormal to read as much as you do- it's GREAT!! Haven't you seen all these commercials out there trying to get children to read?
Most children do not read enough. When you read it increases your vocabulary, your thought process in the ability to over come obstacles. As well as its enjoyable. As long as you still get some exercise there's nothing wrong with reading a lot!
My 12 year old son is dyslexic and finds it very difficult to read some things- so for him he listens to story Cd's and follows along in the book. he just finish Eragon, Eldest and Flyte...
Keep up the GOOD WORK: )
As a nation, many college students are having difficulties with reading, grammar etc.

Hell no. Good for you. You've developed a friendship that'll be with you all your life. As for the speed of your reading, don't worry about it. If you feel like you read a piece too fast, re-read it. Almost always you'll find something new in that you missed the first time around.

I've read really fast from a young age and the only things bad I've found about it is finally getting that book you want and then it's done so soon, and the other is finacially affording to keep yourself in books.
