Essentially Lexington and Concord are the beginning of armed rebellion by the Colonists against the British Empire.

From this point on, British and Colonial Patriots were at war.

It was also a defeat for the British forces involved. This came as a slap to British martial pride and gave the Patriot the early confidence they would need to marshall more people to the cause of Liberty.
