Barking dogs, smelly barbecues, smelly trash, obnoxiously loud cars and trucks and motorcycles, LOUD music, you name it....
DOGS - let's talk dogs - if you are going to have a pet, THEN SPEND TIME WITH IT. Keep it indoors, so the whole darn neighborhood doesnt have to listen to the mangy cur barking and whining when it is penned up alone in your yard.
Then we have my moronic neighbor who has THE loudest truck on the open road. As soon as he turns the ignition key, my entire house vibrates. Worse than if there were a loud stereo or helicopter nearby. You think this pinhead would get his engine looked at? Then you have the geniuses who think basketball hoops in the driveway are a great idea. All I really want is a peaceful and QUIET place I can call home where I don't have to see, smell, or hear any other person if I don't want to.
Is there a way to attain this short of buying 100 acres in the middle of nowhere?

Guess you're going to have to move somewhere else.
OR you could do a noise ordinance (if your city zone has one) against this person at your local substation. But loud vehicles usually aren't considered a noise pollution.
Trash is always a big factor though - so you may be able to put an end to that when you make your compliant at the substation.
Good luck.

i take it they moved in after you bought the house. because as a homeowner i would have asked around, walked over to the neighbors and spied a little. i would have pretended to each potential neighbor i was curous about the other neighbors and so on and so on. then i would have got to hear about the neighborhood and actually meet the neighborhood. now if they are renting, perhaps you might want to locate the owner and send them a letter. now i have to laugh at this answer, because one of my neighbors mailed my landlord a nasty letter about me. i have four kids under 9 and they play outside, LOUD. and i will not stop that. but they needed me to get in trouble so they said other things. my landlord came by uninvited to check the house out. the yard was manicured, with tons of herbs in the garden, my dogs were happy and in a HUGE kennel, so as not to destroy his fence. and i bring them inside every evening to give me and the whole neighborhood a good nites sleep. he realized i was being slandered cause i have loud kids. we also peered over the fences adn cant figure out which of them sent the letter because the neighbor to my right, the one on my left and the one behind me ALL have dogs!! and kids!! SO i was shocked at the audacity of sending my landlord a letter. i think people will complain about anything. as my mom use to say, be greatful you are alive and healthy and shut the hell up! aww dont you love ma!? hehehee GOOD LUCK!

It's not the neighbors that suck, it's your choice in where you call home. Each area of the US is going to have its things that some people like and dislike--only YOU have the choice to decide where you live.

But yes, if you don't want neighbors, buy 100 acres and become a hermit.

Don't be so picky
Almost everyone wants to blast music sometime
A dogs bark cant always be controlled
and so what about the truck
they obviously cant afford anything great
Its not always about you, huh.
Be a tad more considerate and dont go looking for a problem

wow i love that type of life except for the dog part but if you really want to move to somewhere with open spaces try to think about ur job how hard it would be to get from work to home and instead of 100 acres in the middle of nowhere how about lakeside or mountian side homes peace and quite as well as beautiful senery

It sounds like your neighbor is disturbing the peace and should be reported to the police. That sort of behavior should not be tolerated
Not all neighborhoods are like that...thank goodness. We've been in our house for 33 yrs. and we have the nicest neighborhood and neighbors ever.

because ........................

and the ones I have nothing better to do than watch - gossip and mark. Thats why I work in the big city 40 miles west of this hick town to get away from the towny mentality to where I am free and no one cares - no one knows me unless I want them to know me -- I love it- freedom - Then I never have to see the neighbors - I just sleep in thier neighborhood because it is cheap to and leave all the time .

Move to the country. Less people and very quiet. You could also move to an area with a lot old people they are very quiet.

I agree with you. My neighbors are loud, firework starting, music playing, reckless driving, fighting college kids. I agree with you. And my other neighbor is like dead or something.
