Probably the most painful part is in a few years when you look in the mirror & wonder what the heck were you thinking.
Tattoos are like herpes & diamonds they are forever. & what you think is cool today, trust me... you will not think it is cool in a few years!
& whatever you do, DON'T get it on your chest, arm or shoulder or lower leg! You will hate it when you have to wear a nice dress to a wedding or formal occasion.
There is nothing wrong with a tattoo that represents who you are. But if you are just getting one to have one... don't!

It depends on the person, but usually the most hurtful spots are the back of the neck, where your spinal chord is, and where your skin is thinner like the inside of your legs, your neck, and inner arm.
The pain you feel depends on the area , some people will tell you that it doesn't hurt at all and some other will say that it hurts like hell, so it also depends on the person.
The kind of pain you'll feel is a burning-pinching sensation. After 10-15 minutes your body would have released enough adrenaline for you to handle the pain. some people faint and then feel great. (like me) some others handle the pain perfectly fine, some others chicken out and leave the place with half tattoo.
Please remember that a tatt is forever and some inkers don't do names of persons for personal reasons. I know it sounds pretty cliche but think about your future and what you want and imagine your tattoo in those conditions and if it would fit.
I got mine when I was 17 and I'm really happy about them, never regretted getting them at all.(now I'm almost 24)
If you want more info on the subject I really reccommend you this site, www.bmezine.com it has a glossary and a section where you can find the risks of getting a tattoo.
hope it helps

Really think long and hard about getting a tattoo! I have one and there are days I wish I didnt! Once you get it the only way to remove it is LASER surgery. This kind of surgery is very expensive.
As for hurting less, the more fatty the tissue in the place you put your tattoo, the less it will hurt, but it will still hurt! It's a needle going at high speed injecting ink under your skin...no way it wouldn't hurt.
As your what you want your tattoo to be of I think that is a personal decision. You could take a picture that has something to do with your heritage ( ie: if you are of Irish descent you could use a shamrock, Scottish a Thistle.) You could use asian symbols for luck, love peace, etc
Sent a couple of links along with my response for you to look at
Good luck with your decision!!

Girl...please wait to get your first tattoo!!!!!!! i love tattoos and I've got three... one on my arm that needs covered up, one on my left calf that never got quite done, and the third on my hip bone that is a fresh cover up
i didn't get my first tattoo til i was 22 years old, and only my most recent is one i can actually live with...
unless you are getting an "in memory" tat (of a parent or sibling or granny), I'd hold off...
just make sure you really love whatever you decide on!

I also got my first tattoo at 16. The first tattoo I got was on my shoulder and did not hurt very much. It felt like someone scratching my back very hard. After the tattoo was finished it felt like I had a mild sunburn on my back. The next two tattoos I got were on my ankles and hurt really bad. I almost past out from the pain. The turn out of all of them were excellent though and I am thinking of getting some more.

My first tat was a rose. I put it on my back because i work with kids and can't have it showing. It's hard to find a good job if it shows. If i were you, i would get something that represents something special in your life. Make sure you get it in a place that can be easily covered. EMPLOYERS DO LOOK AT THAT! Trust me.
My rose represents my love for nature. I will be getting a celtic cross to represent my brother in law who passed away. Just trust your instinct.

I would REALLY, REALLY wait. If you don't know what you want, have not thought about it fully, you are most likely to get something that you will regret.
I am not against tattoos, I have a few (which I love BTW), but you need to be sooooo selective...
Just my advise...
No! You are not supposed to drink alcohol!!! It makes you bleed more!

I have three tattoos, so i can be a bit of help. If you get one across bone it tends to hurt, feels like someone is scratching away at your bone. Nice! One of my tattoos is on my ribs, which is apparently one of the most painful places you can get a tattoo. The man who went in before me was having a tattoo across his ribs and was crying like a baby, however i had one done in the same place and i was fine, so it depends on your pain threshold. thankfully mine is quite high. girls tend to have a higher pain threshold than boys as we're designed for the pain of child birth. lucky us. I would say one thing, dont rush into your design as you are stuck with it, im bored of one of mine already, so make it a good one as its there for life. and dont just pick something out of a book, who wants a tattoo that every man and his mate has. good luck, and take some pain killers an hour before you have it done!

First wait until you are 18. 2nd if your main concern is pain you are not ready for a tattoo. They all hurt... anyone that says different is a liar. The level of pain is dependant on YOUR pain tolerance so what anyone says won't make any difference.

I think you are very silly if you get a tattoo. You are very young.
Alot of people that have tattoos regret it. Once you regret it theirs nothing you can do. you will be stuck with it for the rest of your life.
When you get old it will go all wringerly and horrible. Alot of men dont like women with tatoos. No one can tell you what to do. You have got to be 100%. Alot of places wont do it if you are under the age of 18.
