It is fiction - Yes, Harper Lee is white, and some say her depiction of Scout growing up is based on her own childhood - the character Dill was based on her friend Truman Capote.

If you would have read the book all this would be clear, the book is well written and very easy to understand.You should read the book now because all through high school they ask you about it. Perhaps it is close to my favorite book.
