i am a Gen Mgr for a steel factory and our base salary for welders(with experience ) is 200,000 to start. overtime ans other benefits are added.. so you are looking at almost $2300 after taxes

It really depends on the situation. A welder in a major Japanese shipyard etc. would make really good money, whereas a guy who works for a small company would make a lot less. My guess is the average starting wage for a guy new to a trade would be about 180 000 yen a month to start. Overtime, bonunses, etc. would start to add up after a while. For a guy with a large company, he would make the company scale based on his seniority, so after a few years he would be making 300 000 a month or so.
