Neither. The illuminati are the intelligentsia of a nation -- the people who think deeply and who (with any luck) influence the course of things. A lot of stupid people have money and power without intelligence and compassion is a frightening thing. If members of that 7% are actually clever as well as simply able to buy their way into whatever they want, yes, I would concede that they could be described as illuminati.

If your proposition is correct then it is highly likely that a large part of the 7% you mention are most likely involved in the international drug trade and are neither a religion or a nationality. They are crimnals who can afford to buy protection from corrupt Mexican officials...

Yes, but 1% of the American pop ARE the wealthiest people in the world. I don't think that you have to be "illuminated" to make enormous amounts of money. In fact, sometimes being the opposite of "illuminated" works a lot better.
