By neglecting air resitance, estimate how long it takes for a golf ball falling from rest to reach half of this speed?

estimate how far the ball falls during this time?

taking gravity as 10m/s rather than 9.8m/s
it takes 2 seconds to reach 20m/s (1/2 40m/s)
it travels approximately 20m

there may be a slight problem in my calculations, it feels wrong but i can't find it.

IF BALL IS HIT OFF A CLIFF IT WILL INCREASE IN SPEED ! NEED MORE INFORMATION!
