How thick is the paint on a car around? How deep would a cut to the metal go?

If you can feel the scratch then usually it cant be buffed out. It will have to be touched up and sometimes that wont work and you need the whole panel repainted.

If it has gotten down to the metal... you can actually see the silvery looking metal in the scratch

If it gets down to the metal it will soon begin to rust due to moisture in the air.
