Most people are not turned down because of their past, but because they lie about their past.

Clean and sober for 5 years may be a good thing, but depending on where you live and the need for adoptive parents in your area, may or may not be good enough. Your age may be a consideration (were your drunk years in your early twenties or late thirties). Young and stupid is a better mitigating factor than older and stupider.

What is your current living condition like? Are you married to or live with a drinker? Do you have other children that live with you? Do you have any unpaid child support or maritial support obligations? What is your current income? Do you own or rent your home? How long have you lived there? etc., etc.

Don't allow your past to keep you from applying. After all, all they can say is "no" or "not yet," and you may learn how you can become a viable candidate in the future or whether you should just wipe the desire from your "to do" list.

No disrespect intended but the only way someone would allow you to adopt a baby is if they were on drugs. Even though you have been sober for 5 years you still have domestic violence on your record and that doesn't go any where.

The problem is you are an alcoholic. Who is going to take care of the baby if you start drinking again? I'm a recovering alcoholic and i have seen people with 25-30 years of sobriety start again. The problem with alcoholism is that it is a progressive disease, which means ever how much you drank if you start again within a very short period of time you will be right back where you were when you quit. Trust me don't try it or you will learn a very hard lesson, please keep your sobriety it is one of the most important things you have. I have a good heart and i believe you have one also. I'm not the one to tell you if you will be able to adopt or not but if not don't start drinking it will just prove they are right. Enjoy your sobriety and enjoy life. Have a great life!!!

I doubt it but don't believe everything you hear you have to try before it is certain.
Sometimes it depends on the agency some are more strick than others and if you have a good supportive family then the agency will see and give you a chance. Everyone should deserve to be happy, and obviously going to foster homes is not a solution anyone wants for kids so as long as you don't drink anymore and are devoted to your decision go for it!

God willing, no you will not.

People fall off the wagon all the time. I'm sure you have good intentions, but like they say..."The road to Hell is paved with good intentions." What would happen (God forbid) if you slipped up one night ("Oh...I'll just have ONE.") and that one turned into six or eight and you ended up harming the baby?

call up job and faimly services in your area.

they can tell you %100.

I think you may be able to do a private adoption ( you find the baby, and use lawyers to adopt) but I'd check
