Well I like animals and I saw this kid next door to me trying to kill some garage mice inhumanely with shovels and balls. Luckily he got frustrated and went in the house for a few minutes, well I got the mice and put them in a warm area near a bush. My question is since they were only about an inch long and had fur how old do you think they were?

Well I told the parents and they were shocked because they own 2 hamsters. At about this time the kid is usually having a good psycopathic day outside. I guess he was grounded. I sure hope he was. I was also able to talk to the kid and I mentioned how painful it would be if I had done what he did to the poor little mice to him. He seemed terrified. Thanks to all of you for the help. Oh and it just so happens I saw the mice today, or at least they looked the same in every way, in my garage. I don't mind since I have flower seeds and stuff like that in there. They seem to be doing better.

Hopefully old enough to care for themselves. They grow hair at 10 days, open their eyes at 14 days, and are weaned at around 3 weeks. If their eyes were open they had a fighting chance.

But any fate they found under that bush is a better fate that the psychopath child you have for a neighbor had in mind for them. You might want to let his parents know of his cruelty to animals. Cruelty to animals is often a indicator of the lack of empathy for another creature in an individual. Even though mice are considered a nuisance, they can be humanely euthanized instead of viciously slaughtered. I wonder if the little psycho would like to be whacked at with a shovel & bombarded with balls?

You know you should go tell the little budding serial killers parents that he was trying to kill something and they should have him looked at by a physicatrist. There is something wrong with him. They were probably about 14 days old . I hope they were old enough to fend for themselves. But you have a serious problem with that kid next door do something soon. If the parents give you a hard time then call dcf and tell them you have a neighbor who is letting their kid kill small animals . They will be out there quick and they will get that kid some counseling regardless of how the parents act. Who knows maybe the parents need counseling too.
Good Luck to you.

You sound like my brother. He used to catch them in a bag so he could take them outside and let them go. I think the same mice made their way back inside.
