In all fairness and to be equal I don't think gay marriages should be illegal. I agree with you, it doesn't hurt anyone so there is really no problem. Some people are just stupid and have no reason for making laws that they do.

Personally I think they should be against the law but it seems like our law is no longer based on traditional Judeo-Christian values. From a strictly legal standpoint there can logically be no reason why two people of the same sex should not be able to marry (depending on the legal definition of the word marriage). Traditionally, the word marriage meant one man and one woman. If it changes (or has changed) to include man/man and woman/woman then by the same logic we should allow polygamous marriages also. This is the slippery slope principle. Some may scoff at it but you can mark the words you read here today that as sure as I'm typing this if gay marriage becomes the law of the land we WILL have legal polygamous marriages within half a generation.

I think if two people genuinely love one another it does not matter whether you have a certificate to prove it.

There appeared to be many marriages taking place without witness or ceremony in the 1500's. The Council of Trent was so disturbed by this, that they decreed in 1563 that marriages should be celebrated in the presence of a priest and at least two witnesses. Marriage took on a new role of saving men and women from being sinful, and of procreation. Love wasn't a necessary ingredient for marriage during this era.

"Although the family is seen as the social institution most resistant to change, it is, in fact, as deeply embedded in the historical process as any other institution. The claim that it is essentially a conservative institution - an island of stability in a sea of social, political, and economic change - is largely an illusion.... In structure, role, and conception, the American family has changed dramatically over time."

No, many catholic-based countries allow same-sex marriages, such as Spain and the like, so it obviously isn't that bad.

It's just that our government and the people that run it are so anal about everything the Bible teaches that anything said in it should be basis for ALL people to live by.
I think they'll get over it in time.

And to the guy above me, WE ARE ANIMALS.
We're one step above Homo Sapiens, which makes us Homo Sapiens Sapiens.
Which makes us mammals.
And, in turn, makes us the equivalent of animals.

Yes. Because what's next? The marriage between a human and a sheep?. Where is it going to end? Homosexuality only seems to be spreading diseases and immorality. I don't want my son or daughter to be exposed to that kind of life style. And I know everyone is going to have their opinion about what I just said, but you asked and I'm just giving you my answer. Everyone now a days seems to think it's okay or natural but it isn't. They say even animals practice homosexuality and it's okay. So we are being compared to animals now? Not surprising since scientists claim that we are. Well you can act like an animal if you want to, I can't control that but don't ever think you will get support from me.

I have nothing against gay people so I think gay marriage should be legal everywhere (it is over here in England and has been for about a year).

There is something intrinsically wholesome about giving men special benefits for staying with and supporting their offspring...

There is nothing stopping gay couples from having wills drafted, buying life insurance for each other, etc.

There is no big deal. Why not legalize it. Don't gays have the right to be just as miserable as everyone else who is married?

No, personally I do not think it should be legalized. God did not make a man to be with another man and the same for woman to woman.

Marriage should be between loving consenting adults. Gay straight or unsure, doesn't matter to me. :)
