Very difficult to pinpoint the entry point of water. The only solution is to spray all the joints with a water proofer' from the outside.

you really should try to get on the roof to have a good look about you can not alway`s tell by looking at the boars underneathif you have a felt roof this normally has three layers of felt in can come in one layer and track down to the next layer so get up and check all your laps in the felt for cracks or felt lift upcheck the skirting for the same and also the chases cement pointing as if it has shrunk this will also let the water in check the bricks if any for missing pointing. if the roof is and asphalt this usally goes down in two coats and in bays on a layer of sheathing felt so not to many joints to check check all as before and all the fillets that seperate the flat from the skirting. if you find the problem yyou can buy a product called acrpol it comes in 5 and 25 llt not cheap about 40 ish pounds for a 5 lrt but will do the job

1. what type of materials is it made of
2. wind direction, this is important as the wind can drive the rain into the roof
3 Are there any broken tiles to be seen
4. Stains on the ceiling
5.Stains on the roof rafters in the loft
usually stains on roof rafters are coursed by water bringing out the natural salts in the wood.
6.How old is the roof and has it been felted under the roof covering (Tiles or Slates)
I could go on and on but you knead to get an expert in.
if in doubt about an expert get in touch with the National federation of roofing contractors and they will advice you
P.s. don't climb on the roof your self
good luck
