Roofing is pretty easy, but you have to deal with the heights and hot conditions. If you have already stripped off all the old shingles (or is a new installation) first check the drip edges. Repair or replace as needed. Next, apply a layer of tar paper to the roof, stapling it down every 3 feet. If you apply it square to the roof, it has lines already on it to keep your shingles square, otherwise you can pull a chalk line for this. Starting at the bottom, install a first course of shingles either with the tabs cut off or upside down. Fit the next course over the first allowing a slight overhang of the tabs over the drip edge. Courses overlap the previous course by approximately 1/2 (basically the leading edge is fitted at the top of the tab cutout). Any valleys should have a flashing under them before the shingles.

let's assume you are going to add roofing , or at least you are not removing any. The hard part is keeping the rows straight. If you use 'timberline' style shingles, it is not as important. That is why roofers love it. 1 Start at the edge of the roof. 2 add drip cap ( the metal strip around the roof) if necessary. 3 turn the first row upside down nail in place ( 4 nails per shingle) 4 place the next row on top of the first. 5 place successive rows, up to the ridge line.6 place ridge rows and you are done.

Read the Step by step directions on the Bundle of Shingles- keep the rows straight by using a Chalk line- pop a line every 3 feet going up the slope, and try to stay even with it, use the tab slots as a guide , and on each edge is a slit, also for a guide. Start with a full 3 tab shingle, then you cut off one tab for the second row, then cut off 2 tabs for the 3rd row, then repeat with a full one.

roofing is a little harder for the do-it-yourselfer.this is a job that should be left to a professional.
if you plan on going ahead with the project.there are instructions on the bundle wrapper.i have been roofing for over 20 yrs and would not feel comfortable giving instructions over the internet.good luck
