While I don't think they are mentally ill, they probably would admit themselves that there is an emotional and mentall problem they have that would cause them to dress up as the opposite sex.
Also there is research to suggest that all people with a sexuality conflict are mentally ill and emotionally scarred, but it has been challenged because it is not politically correct enough for the easily offended minorities.

Nope. Many cultures actually regard such people as being blessed with the best aspects of both genders. The local native cultures in my area call such people "twin spirited".
Were all the transsexuals you've met prostitutes by any chance? Lots of mentally ill people in that trade.

are you mentally ill for the way you think/believe in self?
most folks in the glbt community are holding higher paying jobs, are more respected for what they do for the community that they live in. Are honest, hard working folks who pay their taxes on time and attempt to live without fear of having their home(s), job(s) personal property and their lives safe like other law abiding folks, in many cases, they are killed for what they are, which is not mentally ill.
when was the last time you heard of a mentally ill person questioned for what is in their heart/mind and soul?

I am not going to sit here and totally dis them. They are not mentally ill they just have a problem with figuring out who they are or who they want to be. They are human and have feelings like the rest of us.....they are maybe just confused on which way to go.

yes . they don't want ot be the sex they are born with and feel confortable if they change their sex to the oppsite sex. this is to me a sign of mantal disorder that can start from birth or when the mother is pregrant, she must have been abused which caused internal dmages to the child's normal cells or it can be a result of drug. whatever the casue , they should need a mantal evluation and subject to thraphy

its normally caused from a misbalance in the brain of testosterone, estrogen and progesterone... they can also be individuals that have a birth defect where in their formation the X and Y chromosomes didnt differentciate enough and they were born with some sex organs of each

a true transexual does not have a choice, it is biology and so no I do not think they are mentally ill
