I write down what I want to do....when I want to do it ...how I'm going to do it....why I want to do it.

It sounds simple but it always works for me.

For me the easiest thing was to start with food. I was eating really crappy food and a lot of my lack of motivation was really not having the energy to do very much (also poor nutrition affects your brain and hormones and can contribute to depression which, surprise surprise, is characterized by among other things a lack of motivation). So the next time you go to the grocery store, buy lots of fruit and vegetables and put them in a convienent bowl at home so you can lazily snack on them.

Next, start doing a bit of exericise. Since you're lacking in motivation, make exercise quick and easy. I started out by just jogging on the spot in my room for five minutes while listening to music. It gives you a quick boost of energy and improves your mood, and therefore your motivation to do other things.

Finally, you need to put in place some enforcements so that doing the stuff you're unmotivated to do will be easier than not doing it. Take advantage of the fact that you have friends and family in your life that are probably willing to help you if you ask. I've always had a hard time getting homework done, so I arranged with my boyfriend that I'm going to get, say, the first half of my paper done by the end of the day and email it to him for proof. If he doesn't receive that email by midnight, I have to pay him five bucks.

Hope this helps.

What an excellent question ! I reckon we are suffering from too much choice in our modern western world . So much in the way of entertainment is passive that it eats into your capacity to get moving on things . I think getting back to a more simple lifestyle could help . Maybe routines are a way of motivating yourself maybe building in a reward for tasks successfully achieved . Also I think picking one goal at a time might work and getting involved with others is good for support .

I make my self do just ONE small thing I don't want to do...any one thing. As soon as that is done, I feel like I am in the right direction and it starts the ball rolling.
